Sedona Main
Street Program nominates Cottage Gallery, Gifts and Garden for AZ Main
Street Best Small Scale Renovation Project.
The Cottage Gallery, Gifts and Garden
is a new tenant in “The Cottages on Jordan Road”, built in the 1950’s as
small vacation homes and in later years transitioned into commercial
use. When this “Cottage” became available in the fall of 2004, Jerry &
Nita Marlette took the opportunity to create a Gallery that would
feature Nita’s watercolor paintings. They also wanted to preserve the
quaint Cottage look and feel that was inherent to the building.
Jerry & Nita made renovations and
property improvements that preserve the historical value of the Cottage
and help expand the artistic and economic base of Sedona. They
accomplished this by creating an inviting patio setting filled with
flowers that provides a wonderful entry to their Gallery. The patio is
used and offered to others as a public space for meetings and social
gatherings. The side yard was enhanced by adding a stream that gently
flows along a decorative flagstone walkway to a small pond. Many garden
art items, planters, handmade birdhouses and feeders decorate this
quaint outdoor retreat.
The Cottage Gallery, Gifts and Garden
is located one block north of Hwy. 89A (Main Street Sedona) and has been
referred to as a “hidden treasure”. Along with Nita’s watercolor
paintings, the Gallery features professional high-quality works of fine
and functional art and gift items by other local artists in colorful
displays.
