Sedona Main
Street Program is proud to nominate Oaxaca Restaurant & Cantina for the
2005 Best Main Street
Medium Scale Renovation Project.
Carla Butler, the owner of Oaxaca Restaurante &
Cantina began her evaluation of her restaurants existing cantina/bar
facilities in mid 2003. The layout and design of the existing bar was an
inadequate space and was in need of extensive repair.
It was apparent that a new and updated facility
was needed. A $75,000 budget was slated. Funds were allocated for new
equipment, flooring, carpentry and interior decoration. The amazing
cooperation and creativity of the entire staff made it possible for the
restaurant to remain fully operational during the renovations.
Renovation commenced in January and was completed in March 2004, just
under budget.
The cantina is a beautiful place to relax with
friends for excellent refreshments and food. A flat screen high
definition TVs entice sports fans as well. This gathering place has
received kudos from local residents as well as repeat patrons and
visitors. The area is now decorated with art and murals that still
reflect the overall old world Mexican rustic charm of Oaxaca, but offers
the amenities and comforts of this century.
Both the brick backsplash and a massive wooden
slab to define the serving area complement the “old world” feel. The
room’s decor includes rusted wrought iron with heart inserts, a motif
carried through on the bar stools, shelving and the new railing. The
extensive use of stainless steel equipment and brushed aluminum on the
service countertops completes the “clean” and “updated” look. Dark
woods that beacon your touch, authentic Mexican music playing softly and
low lighting enhance the ambience.
This renovation has generated increased
revenues and created a more functional and fun gathering space. Oaxaca
has truly “raised the bar”!
