ECONOMIC RESTRUCTURING/BUSINESS ENHANCEMENT

New Building Project

This category recognizes a new building project that has helped boost the economic profitability and created vitality within the district. The nominations in this category represent projects of new construction and/or in-fill development that have had significant impact in the main street district.

The Sun Building

Sedona Main Street Program proudly nominates the Sun Building for AZMS Award Nomination for Best New Building Project. This Sun Building project was new construction and was also an in-fill development project that made a significant impact on the Sedona Main Street District. Now it is the vision of the Sun Building project to make a significant impact on the health of all who visit.

The SUN Building is located on Jordan Road in the historic Sedona Main Street District.  In just over 1 year’s time, the SUN Building transformed an entirely weed filled lot into a beautiful Sedona landmark.  The design and color of the building were carefully chosen in an effort to enhance the Main Street District without detracting from the natural beauty of the surrounding environment.

Construction went an extra step farther than its own building footprint, to create public sidewalk on Jordan and Apple Roads, giving pedestrians a more comfortable and safe passage.  However, the aesthetic appeal of the SUN Building only represents a portion of the benefits to the Main Street Community.

The SUN Building is a “Healing Family Center.”  Fifteen jobs have been created by the new building and business in the first few months of operation.  The building has several functions.  On the first floor there is the BR Clinic and the Healing Family Information Center.  The BR Clinic is a whole health clinic which integrates western medicine, oriental medicine and mind-body training.  The Healing Family Information Center is a large open space area that provides a comfortable haven for both residents and tourists to come and receive information about Sedona and their Health.  A “multi-media healing family center” with books, music and DVD’s related to ones health is also available.  Additionally, there is a retail shop with innovative products also related to health.  On the second floor in the Healing Family Center there is a large “training room” for exercise classes and workshops/lectures. Monday through Saturday, exercise and yoga classes are offered free to anyone at 7 am, and additional classes will be added in the evening for those unable to attend morning classes. The BR Clinic staff offers lectures on a variety of topics that are open to the public every Friday evening.  The remainder of the second floor is used as administrative offices to keep track of the entire Sun Building and its clients.

The vision of Dr. Ilchi Lee for this building is for it to become a space where everyone and anyone feel comfortable to come and find useful information about health and experience a variety of integrative healing methods.  The hope is that this building will attract residents and tourists to the Main Street area, as well as function as a gathering place for local business owners.

The SUN Building has invested approximately $1.4 million. Additional investment will be made as time goes on, to fit the needs of the Sun, BR Clinic and the Healing Family Center community.   For all these reasons we nominate the Sun Building for AZ Best New Building Project
