Moonlight Madness Street Festival

Sedona’s Main Street celebrated the 20th anniversary of its Moonlight Madness Street Festival & Sidewalks Sales on September 2nd, 2006, and it was a superb success!  As a unique expression of Sedona Main Street Program’s mission, the event created a spirit of gaiety and cultural sharing for visitors and the community, while at the same time, promoting business and the area’s distinctive beauty.

The SMSP District became vibrant with the sights and sounds of art, music and celebration, and the many visitors and locals sharing in the merriment.  While most businesses had always closed early on the holiday, this fun event inspired them to stay open late, most until 9:00 p.m., offering great shopping for the visitors and revenue for the town.

For two decades, Moonlight Madness has enticed guests to indulge in the culture, kids’ activities, music, food and art – all for free.  Musically, Sedona Main Street was alive … from traditional Native American drumming, guitars and flutes, to western tunes, and romantic strings.

There was a Wild West shoot-out, the Police Department’s K-9 patrol, the Fire District and the Hard Hat program … and for the free-spirited were psychic readings, henna tattoos, and wonderful, chair massages.  Retailers had bargains that shoppers couldn’t resist.  And SMSP restaurant members served up lip-smacking dishes from popular food booths.

And the kids!  They loved it!  With the Fantasy Makers Marionettes, Magical Michael’s Magic and Yo-Yo Show, the Bouncy Castle, Monster Mural Coloring and Freddy the Fire Truck, they absolutely delighted in Moonlight Madness magic.  The “Hands Through History” commemorative plaques reminded visitors of those who came before, as they marveled at the beautiful, yet rugged red rocks of Sedona’s landscape, surrounding a vibrant, eclectic town.

What makes Moonlight Madness unique to us, is that SMSP Businesses secure, arrange and pay for the entertainment and activities. SMSP believes it has the best merchants, who have continued to make this even possible these past 20 years. Without their endless support to this event and our Program it would not be possible, it would not happen. Sunterra Resorts sponsored the cost of media promotion and added even more street entertainment this past year, making this annual Labor Day event a true success.  Sedona Main Street Program’s ONLY role in this event is to choreograph and promote the festivities and the SMSP District.

The Moonlight Madness Street Festival & Sidewalk Sales event has become one of our greatest expressions of Sedona Main Street Program’s Mission (to assist in enhancing the SMSP District using promotion, business enhancement, community building….), through a beautiful, unique experience.  In the spirit of celebration and promotion of its shops, restaurants and surrounding businesses, and a wonderful gift to visitors and the community,

Moonlight Madness Street Festival & Sidewalk $ales Event deserves your recognition as this year’s Arizona Main Street Best Special Event.
